If you’ve ever had a tooth damaged by tooth decay or an unexpected dental injury, you know what kind of effect it can have on your day-to-day life. Damaged teeth are less functional, more prone to plaque buildup, and can even affect your overall confidence. Fortunately, there are many restorative dental options available these days, including high-quality crowns. Dental crowns are like ‘caps’ that can be secured over damaged teeth. If you’re in need of tooth repair options in Liberty, MO, Seaport Family Dentistry is here to help!

How Do I Know If I Need A Dental Crown?

The primary function of a crown is to protect and reinforce a tooth. There are a variety of situations where a tooth could need additional protection or reinforcement. In some cases, tooth decay can progress to the point where a regular filling wouldn’t be enough to repair. Teeth can wear down naturally over time or be broken, chipped, or damaged by an injury. After receiving a root canal, many patients need a crown to prevent the tooth from fracturing in the future. Your dental team will be able to diagnose your unique issues and recommend dental crowns if they’re the best restorative option for you.

What Are Crowns Made Of?

Crowns can be made of different materials or substances. Some common options include gold or metal alloys, porcelain, composite resin, or zirconia. Gold or metal options tend to stand out more from surrounding teeth while porcelain matches natural teeth very convincingly. Metal crowns are often the most durable, but ceramic and porcelain are still excellent at standing up to wear and tear.

Can Dental Crowns Be Done On The Same Day?

Seaport Family Dentistry offers both traditional and same-day dental crowns. Depending on your unique needs and budget, one-visit crowns can be a great option to speed up the procedure. Traditionally, the process is split out over two appointments. During your first visit impressions will be taken and a temporary crown will be applied. Impressions are then sent out to a lab where permanent crowns will be custom-made for you. We’re also able to offer crowns that can be made right here in the office while you wait!

Should I get a same-day crown or a bridge?

Our team can review your options with you to decide the best restorative option for your smile. Dental crowns tend to work well for patients who just need a single tooth restored since bridges involve modifying at least three teeth, while dental bridges can be a better option if several teeth in a row need to be restored. Dental bridges can also be used as a minimally invasive way to replace missing teeth.

Are same-day dental crowns covered by dental insurance?

If a dental crown is being replaced for restorative purposes, many dental plans offer at least partial coverage, and our knowledgeable front office team would be happy to help you maximize your benefits. Members of our in-house dental membership plan can receive 20% off their dental crown treatments, and we also accept CareCredit® and Lending Point.
